Utilizing my passion for dogs and long-studied skill in the art of crochet, I have worked throughout high school to make a positive impact on shelter dogs' lives by designing and crocheting custom items (i.e. “doggie couture”) specifically designed for dogs, including those with disabilities. By sharing each dog's backstory and precious photos of them dressed in their new crocheted items, I enhance the prospects of finding them permanent homes. To achieve this end, I and my team of crocheters visit shelters throughout Northern California and bring these lonely dog into the homes of thousands of animal lovers through the Doggie Darners website. These “doggies” are not just their disabilities. Each one has a personality and each one deserves the chance at a loving home. I am proud to say that we have placed 65 dogs to-date garbed in our original creations and photographed.
